Effects of Chronic Exposure of Lead on Gonadotrophs of Pituitary in Heteropneustes Fossilis

چکیده
The apparent impacts of overgrowth of population are many. It has direct impact on natural surroundings, i.e. land, water air and natural resources. Lead is found naturally in a variety of minerals. It is most ancient poison known to man. Environmental levels of lead have increased more than 1,000-fold over the past three centuries as a result of human activity. Leafy fresh vegetables grown in lead-containing soils may have lead-containing dust on them. Children can also be exposed when the working parent brings lead dust home from work (on cloths, in hair, or on shoes, etc). Lead absorbed into the body is distributed to three major compartments: blood, soft tissues and bone.Fish readily absorbs dissolved heavy metals in the water and this serves as a reliable indicator of the extent of the pollution by these contaminants. In this study sublethal concentration of lead acetate i.e. 3.0 mg/litre for six weeks produces alteration in the histology of gonadotrophs in fresh water fish Heteropneustes fossilis.

Background: The present study investigated the effects of lead nitrate on the histo-cytological changes in the corpuscles of Stannius (CS) of Heteropneustes fossilis. Methods: Catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis were subjected to 657.6 mg/L and 164.4 mg/L of lead nitrate for 96 h and 28 days, respectively. Blood from fish was collected on 24, 48, 72 and 96 h in short-term and after 7, 14, 21, an...

Background: Previous studies have been reported on the toxicity of Microcystin-LR, which is produced by cyanobacterial growth in fish, such as Heteropneustes fossilis (H. fossilis). However, no studies have been conducted on the effects of Microcystin-LR on the prolactin cells of H. fossilis. Methods: H. fossilis fish were intraperitoneally injected with Microcystin-LR (2.5μg/25g) and sacrif...

Cypermethrin was administered to Heteropneustes fossilis in chronic concentration to determine lesion of liver as indicators of tissue damage. The cypermethrin dose used was 1/4 of 96 hr LC50. Histopathological changes in liver ranged from vacuolization, necrosis, fibrosis of perivascular region and disposition of yellow brown grains at different time of exposure viz; 20th, 30th, 40th and 60th ...
